Steps to Stop Ants Coming Into Your Kitchen

· Diamond Pest Control

Is it actually possible to stop ants? You see, once these pests take hold, they are nearly impossible to get rid of. To be honest, in most cases, removing ants requires professional help. Experts have a range of techniques and equipment for getting rid of ants that are not available to the public. Specialist London ant control is by far the most long-term solution. That being said, however, there are a few things you can do to prevent these pests.

Why it‘s so difficult to stop ants and get rid of them

Ants that make their way into your kitchen will probably come from a nest in the garden. The problem with ants is that they burrow deep into the ground. This makes it extremely tricky to destroy a nest entirely. The issue is also that each nest contains a queen that produces thousands of eggs.

This means that it doesn’t matter how many ants you kill, if you don’t kill the whole colony there will always be more. One thing you can try is pouring a large quantity of boiling water onto the nest until it penetrates deep inside their underground tunnels.

One way some people say works to stop ants entering is with natural remedies. These include all sorts of things such as cayenne pepper, cinnamon and black pepper. You place a barrier of these spices across the area where ants are coming in. They hate the smell and will be deterred. That being said, in our experience, natural remedies are often unsuccessful. The ants quickly become immune to whatever you’re using. You must also constantly reapply your natural remedy.

Try to make your kitchen less attractive to ants

This means your kitchen needs to be as clean as humanly possible. Every inch should be thoroughly cleaned after preparing food. Along with your own meals, cat food bowls can be an attractant for ants, so remove those after your cat has eaten.

Something else you have to stop doing is leaving dirty dishes in the sink for any period of time. The scout ants will sniff this out pretty quickly, then alert a team to come and gather food. What you should also do is dry your sink and the area around your sink. Remember, ants also need water to survive. If there is water around your sink, the ants will come in to drink it, especially during dry weather spells.

Another approach to preventing these pests is by blocking their entry points. Search around your kitchen and look for where the ants emerge. Block up these gaps with superglue or wire wool. Ants can also get in under doors. The solution here is ant repellent spray. Spray a line of this across the floor on the exterior side of your door. This should stop ants from coming in underneath.
