Do Cinnamon Or Pepper Get Rid Of Ants?

· Diamond Pest Control

There are dozens of ways to get rid of ants. These include professional interventions like pesticides and pest proofing, or a number of things you can do yourself. But did you know there are also natural methods for getting for of ants? For example, some sources report that two highly effective ways of doing this are with cinnamon or pepper.

Using cinnamon spice for ant control

First of all, if you want to get rid of ants, then cinnamon does appear to work fairly well at deterring them. All you have to do is sprinkle it along their trails. You can also sprinkle cinnamon near to where they emerge from cracks and crevices. Something else you can do is create a barrier where they you see them walking into your property.

There are two reasons why this is works. To start with, it’s theorised that ants cannot tolerate the smell of cinnamon. Second, when ants inhale this spice, then this causes them to suffocate. When it comes to spices, turmeric is also said to repel ants from your house in spring or indeed at any other time of year.

Does pepper also help to get rid of ants?

Again, this method is reported to work. The way to do this is basically the same as with cinnamon. You can place it near to their nests and where they create trails, and use it to block their path where they enter your home. Along with black pepper, you can also experiment with cayenne pepper. Most common ant species find pepper extremely irritating, and this may help to keep them away.

Sadly though, these are not always a permanent solution for ants. A lot of the time they will simply find a way to go around these spices. They may also simply find another way into your kitchen. This is why it’s a good idea to call in specialist pest control for ants if you’re dealing with these insects. We can help you handle this problem permanently and safely.

What you should also do in the meantime, besides laying spices, is keep your kitchen clean. A clean kitchen often stops the problem from taking hold in the first place. Make sure to wipe all surfaces and remove all traces of food. This should be done everywhere, from floors, to counters, and even under appliances. Also, throw out your rubbish as often as possible to prevent ants from getting to it.  Follow these guidelines, and ants are less likely to be an issue.
