In many ways, having bed bugs could be considered in a similar way as having a disease. If you’ve ever had to deal with these pests, then you’ll know what we mean. These pests cause a nasty rash all over the body, and can also spread from person to person, just like a disease. With this in mind, is it necessary to quarantine with bed bugs?
What is the right thing to do if you have bed bugs?
The answer is that it’s entirely up to you. While the symptoms of bed bugs might feel like a disease, they are not actually a disease. This means they are not contagious like the flu or a cold. Instead, they spread because you’re transporting them from place to place.

For example, you leave your clothes on the floor or on a chair. Bed bugs crawl onto your clothing at night. You then visit a friend. You sit on a sofa or chair for hours and this gives the bugs time to crawl off and infest their household items.
Something like this could also happen if you’re staying the night somewhere. The bugs are in your luggage and they crawl off during the night. Another example is that you can spread bed bugs in public places such as an evening at the theatre or using public transport.
The solution isn’t necessarily to quarantine
The more realistic solution is making sure that you’re free of bed bugs before leaving home. If you’re concerned about spreading these pests, then check yourself thoroughly. Wear freshly laundered clothes and check over them thoroughly. Also go through you bag, handbag, and other items that you’re taking out of the house with a torch and remove any bed bugs you find there.

Deciding to quarantine with bed bugs may drive you crazy if you’re sitting at home with these pests all day. What you really need to do is use the time to get rid of the bugs. Start by booking an appointment with a bed bug pest control company. Then, while you’re waiting for the exterminator’s scheduled visit, get busy cleaning and preparing, and do things that will reduce the bed bug activity. Wash bedding at a high heat and tumble dry it. Hoover around your mattress, beneath the mattress, and the area around your bed. Vacuum the whole room thoroughly and kill any bugs that you can visibly see.
When you bite the bullet and call pest control, this will get the problem sorted out once and for all. Remember, this isn’t like sitting in bed for a week with the flu. Time will not solve the problem. The best thing to do is take action and get the situation dealt with. By all means quarantine yourself if you feel it is fairer to other people, but do take control of the situation and be proactive in the meantime.
