Birds are not always considered a pest. For example, they aren’t nearly as bad as rats or cockroaches. Despite this, however, these creatures can still be a problem for certain types of business. But what can you do about this, and how do you prevent birds from plaguing your premises?

There are many businesses for whom birds are not a major concern. This problem can become epidemic, though, if your business sells food. If you also have an outside eating area then you’ll probably have an even bigger problem with birds. This is bad for business. Birds like pigeons are attracted to the food waste which is left behind by your customers. When people leave food on tables, on the floor and on open bins, this draws pigeons, crows, seagulls, magpies and even sparrows, to name just a few.
Getting rid of food debris fast and continuously is the easiest way to deter birds. Make sure that bins are frequently emptied and keep tables clear. Tables should also be frequently wiped down. Something else you may want to do is put a wheelie bin in this area. These have lids that birds cannot access.
Something that also helps is removing sources of water. Birds need water to survive, so cover up or remove any sources of water that the birds may be using. Also check to see if the gutters of your London business are emptying properly.
Prevent birds is by removing their landing places
If there is nowhere to land, the birds will have to move on. Birds usually land on the highest possible spot. What this means is that they almost always land on your roof. You can also trim back the branches of any trees that are near your premises. This will prevent birds from landing on them. If pigeons, gulls and magpies have a constant, easy source of food from your business premises, they will move out of the trees and nest in odd places on your building.
Reflective objects also work well to deter birds. Pigeons in particular are deathly afraid of anything that reflect the sun. Try placing mirrored objects near to where the birds are landing. This should help to chase them away. You can also get reflective windmills and wind chimes. These are specially designed to chase away birds and should do the trick.
