Do Ultrasonic Pest Devices Really Work?

· Diamond Pest Control

If you’re dealing with pests, then you’ve probably encountered ultrasonic pest devices. These devices are all over the internet and even in shops. But here’s the real question. Do these devices actually work and are they worth spending money on?

Should you try using ultrasonic pest devices?

The people who sell these products claim they are wonderfully effective. They claim their devices can effortlessly drive off pests, and that the pests will never return. Unfortunately, this isn’t exactly true. Most of these devices are extremely hit and miss. Like many DIY mouse control and insect beating devices, they may or may not work, and, if they do, their success is limited.

But how do ultrasonic pest devices actually work? Well, according to the manufacturers, these devices emit a high pitched ultrasonic frequency. This sound is too high pitched to be heard by humans, but it affects pests. This noise is thought to irritate both rodents like rats and mice, and insects. In theory, they should become so distressed that they eventually leave the area.

There are many drawbacks to this method

As we’ve said, these devices are largely ineffective. To start with, they only cover a very small area, usually the size of a small room. This means that they only keep pests out of a certain room, if at all. By this logic, the pests will simply migrate out of the immediate area, and will still be a problem elsewhere in the property. The animals also tend to become immune to the sound after a while, making them a short term solation at best.

These devices can be expensive, and you may need to buy more than one. The worst thing is that you’ll never actually know if the device is functioning. Remember, you can’t actually hear if it’s making a noise. This means all you can do is plug it in and hope for the best.

The bottom line is that these devices are mostly a waste of money. Yes, you can use them, but this should be in conjunction with other methods. Things like tamper proof traps, pesticides and pest proofing will actually get the job done. Calling a pest control company will also help. Professionals can identify the source of your problem and take the necessary steps to remove all pests.

Here’s one final thing to think about: do professional London pest control companies use ultrasonic pest devices? The answer is no. We’ve never used these products and don’t plan on doing so. Not to mention the fact that, if they actually worked, we’d have been out of a job a long time ago!
