There could be 20 million ants in one colony, spreading over 60 acres of land.

Lasius neglectus – Established Super Ants
Meanwhile, Lasius neglectus – another species dubbed mega ants – has already appeared in the UK. Entomologists have recorded confirmed infestations in gardens and greenhouses across Gloucestershire, Eastbourne, London and Yorkshire. This species forms super-colonies with interconnected nests and multiple queens. This allows them to expand undetected over large areas. Their behaviour includes nesting in electrical devices and pushing out native insect species.
